“Finally watched Unspeakable last night and really enjoyed it. Very interesting take. Please let me know if you ever want a glowing quote for it, if you have plans to put it on again”
Jonathan Trigell, author of Boy A, January 2009
The gamble paid off for the International Players! However the challenge was considerable… To perform, three times, an unknown and original Musical dealing with a sensitive subject. Unspeakable played to packed houses on the 30, 31 January and the 1 February thus bringing together an audience of some 450 people at the Salle des Fêtes. By having the actors enter the stage through the audience, for example, director Fiona Morel exploited the reduced scale of the theatre to integrate the public with the action. The play, completely through-sung in English, was magnificently interpreted by the company's thirty-nine English-speaking actors of all ages, and an orchestra of eleven musicians. Absolutely nothing to fault in a professional show, even if the International Players' budget has nothing in common with certain Parisian productions! You just had to be there in order to say, like one audience member: 'The subject unsettles you, but makes you think. It's the most moving thing I’ve seen at the theatre!' The International Players invite you to their next production: Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, from the 3 to 6 June.
